Kullu, valley of God is the most wonderful and enchanting region in the western Himalayas. Earlier it was referred as ‘Kulantapith’ (the end of a habitable word).It is sited on the banks of the river Beas at an altitude of about 3,900ft (1,200mtrs).

It is prominent at its splendid mountains, lush green hill sides, blooming orchards, meandering streams, mossy meadows, gushing rivers, natural hot springs and also for its temples and festivals. Kullu has always attracted the trekkers, mountaineers, tourists, and honeymooners throngs the place during its peak season. It has become the ideal destination for all.

The best time to visit Kullu valley is during October when Dussehra festival is celebrated.

Raghunathji Temple

It is an important pilgrim destination built in the year 1651. The idol Lord Raghunathji of the temple was installed by the king Raja Jagat singh, which was brought from Ayodhya. Dussehra festival celebrated here is a major event in Kullu. During this festival, the idols from the adjoining temples are brought here for a special ceremony dedicated to Lord Raghunathji.


Vaishno Devi

It is one of the famous temples in Kullu. The shrine is placed in a small cave. The idol worship is Mata Vaishno Devi. It is 4km away from Kullu.


Jagannathi Temple

This Jagannathi temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is situated in the village of Bekhli and is just 3Km from Kullu.You need to climb the stony rocks to reach the temple from where one gets a marvellous view of the city.


Bijli Mahadev Temple

This temple is dedicated for lord Shiva. Bijli Mahadev temple is prominent at its 60 feet high staff on top of the temple, which periodically attracts lightening that shatters the Shivalinga. It is 11 kms from Kullu.


The Great Himalayan National Park

A trip to Great Himalayan National Park is an irresistible experience for all travellers in Kullu region. This park is spread over an area of 620 sq.km. Among the variety of animals found in western Himalayas are musk deer, ghoral, thar, bharal, sewor, brown bear, leopard and snow leopard. The rich bird life includes a diverse range of colorful pheasants such as monal, khalij, cheer and tragopan.

 

Kanawar Sanctuary

Kanawar sanctuary is located in Parbati valley of Kullu district. It has the largest population of Himalayan Thar. A walk along Garahan Nala from Kasol through dense Deodar and Fir forests is a delightful experience.


Kaishdhar

It’s worth visiting Kaishdhar, located at a distance of around 16 Kms away from Kullu. This tourist spot will make you enjoyable those who love nature.


Bajeshwar Mahadev Temple (Bajaura)

This temple is recognized to be the oldest temple of 9th century AD with wonderful stone carvings. This temple is located 200 meters away from the village connecting the main road and the Beas River.


Kasol

Kasol is 42 kms away from Kullu. It makes a good holiday destination that dots Kullu valley. It is sited on the banks of river Parvati well known for trout fishing.



Manikaran

Manikaran is a hot tourist attraction and is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. According to the myth, Lord Shiva and his wife, Parvathi, had lost and recovered her ear ring here. It is well known pilgrimage centre, which is 45 kms away from Kullu.


Larji

To south of Kullu is Larji that is 34 kms from it. It provides an excellent spot for trout fishing. It is situated in a striking position between the foaming torrents of the river Sainj & Tirthan, before they join the Beas.


Pulga and Khirganga

Around 4-km ahead on the right side of river Parvati lies Pulga, which looks like the twin sister of Manali. Khiranga hot water fall is located in beautiful natural setting and its water contains therapeutic property.


Banjar

Banjar is well-known for Trout Fishing and is 55 kms from Kullu. Major attraction of this place is Shringa Rishi temple.


Raison

Raison is famous for its natural spring waters, camping site and big apple orchards. It is 16 km from Kullu.

How to get there?

By Air: The nearby airport Bhuntar that is 10 kms from Kullu is connected by Vayudoot services with Delhi and Chandigarh. Jagson & Continental Airlines also drive flights from Delhi to Kullu.

By Rail: The nearest handiest railhead is Chandigarh. The other nearest railways is Jogindarnagar.

By Road : Kullu is well connected by road with Ambala , Chandigarh, Delhi , Pathankot , Shimla, Manali , Palampur, Mandi ,Kyelang, Katrain, Rohatang Pass, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Chamba, Bilaspur, Jogindarnagar, etc.
