Vikram simply steals the show during the songs. And he excels during the action scenes too. The body-chemistry between Vikram and Shriya is perfect. Shriya, on her part, does her role exceptionally well. Her improved dancing skills are very evident in the movie. Krishna does justice to his role too, as the ageing joint director. Other actors play their roles well. However, on the minus side, the comedy scenes involving Brahmanandam are pretty average with nothing much to be said about them.
The movie boasts an excellent music score. The songs have become an instant hit ever since they were released. Devisri Prasad's tunes combined with Vikram's baritone voice really make the songs a pleasure to the ears.
The story is very elaborate and good. However, the director fails in the second half to catch the attention of the audience. Despite this the story definitely gets a five out of five rating.
In the movie, Mallanna (Vikram) is a CBI officer working under joint director Krishna Rao (Krishna). Mallanna uses his intelligence to find black money and gives it away to the poor. In one such attempt, Mallanna conducts a raid on Ashish Vidyarthi, a millionaire and confiscates his black money. To avenge his loss, Subbalakshmi (Shriya), the millionaire's daughter acts as if she is in love with Mallanna. Mallanna, too plays the drama but gets caught eventually by a police officer who happens to be a puppet in the hands of the millionaire. The millionaire forces Mallanna to give 50% share in all his exploits in return for not revealing his activities.
Mallanna accepts the proposal. He then goes to Mexico using a fake passport, collects money from other millionaire and deposits it into the millionaire's account. Then, he asks Subbalakhsmi to check the deposit and inform her father. After everything seems set, Mallanna cracks the account password and transfers the money back to his own account.
Feeling cheated by Mallanna, the millionaire reveals Mallanna's activities. Krishna Rao comes to rescue and destroys the evidence. Then, Mallanna raids another money launderer known as AP Pedda Manishi and opens his secret stash. However, the police arrest Mallanna for robbery. There is no evidence that Mallanna used money for the benefit of the poor. At the same time, none of the people who lost money come forward to finger Mallana in the court. Ultimately, the court lets go of Mallanna due to lack of proof.
TO conclude, Mallanna is a good movie on the whole. The only minus point is its second-half which gets a bit boring. The movie is worth watching for Vikram's performance and for Shriya's glamour.
