Coimbatore is believed to be coined with its name from a local Goddess of Coimbatore whose name was pronounced as Koniyamman Kuniyattamuttur. Perur Patteeswara Swamy Temple


Perur town is located 6 km from Coimbatore situated on the banks of the River Noyyal which is regarded in high spirits by locals. The worshipped deity is Shiva and the 'Swayambu Lingam' is the idol which is held in high esteem here. This religious place is the combined magnificence of the rulers of Chola, Hoysala and Vijayanagara empires during their corresponding reigns. The tradition is that the worldly remnants of the expired change into white stones later about 144 days.

Siruvani Waterfalls


Siruvani Waterfalls is located almost 37 km to the West of the Coimbatore city. The region is excess with natural beauty leaves the tourists mesmerized and spellbound by its sheer natural splendor. The Siruvani water consists of a lot of vital nutrients and known for its good flavour. Also, the waterfalls are considered to be crucial regarding the supply of water for the whole of Coimbatore city. The barrage is connected with many small canals and tunnels for containing rivers such as Aliyar, Thekadi Parambikulam, Sholiyar Nirar, Thunakadavu and Palar for the generation of power and cultivation of lands on a major scale.

Forest College

It is one among the earliest academic organizations of its type in India, the Forest College is located 3.5 kms to the North of the Coimbatore Railway Station premises. More specifically, the Forest College Museum will make you spellbound.

The Museum and the adjacent Botanical Garden have almost 300 species of rarely found and extraordinary plants. Besides plants, the museum also has a diverse range of various nutrients, rocks, reptiles, insects and fungus variants that affect plants and trees alike.

Agriculture University

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was inaugurated as an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in the year 1868 AD. Eventually, it was shifted to Coimbatore in 1906 AD. Finally on 1st June 1971 AD, it was revamped to function as a University. It is located almost one km from the railway station; the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is regarded as one of the premier institutions for agricultural studies in Asia. Extended to an area of 300 hectares, this university is home to a scenic botanical garden with various species of saplings and trees.

Black Thunder

The best theme park of Asia is Black Thunder of Coimbatore which currently holds the top spot, located at the foothills of mammoth Nilgiris. The Water Park is located over 65 acres at spacious Mettupalayam that has numerous exciting aquatic games and land adventures.

By Air: Peelamedu airport is 10-km away from the Coimbatore city, which plies constant flight services to Bangalore, Kochi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Madurai.

By Rail: Coimbatore is a large railway junction within the Southern Railways and consist numerous train services to Chennai, Rameswaram, Madurai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kanyakumari, Kozhikode, Mettupalayam, Kochi and Mumbai.
