Clothing
==> Avoid putting on short skirts or shorts while traveling in India. India is very hot, so put on light colored clothes.
==> Cloths are very cheap in India and so is laundry.

Social Interaction:
==> In smaller towns of India, people may stare at you. Don't be offended, it is just curiosity.
==> Do not touch or shake hands with women. Some parts of India are very conservative.

Beggars:
==> Unfortunately, there are many beggars in India. Do not encourage them and let them bother you.

Food and Drink
==> Always drink bottled water. Ask for reputed brands such as Bisleri, Bibo or AquaFina.
==> Beef and pork may not be available in many parts of India. Vegetarian food is more easily available.
==> Local food may be spicy. Do not consume excessively spicy food, if you are not used to it.

Shopping
==> Almost all major branded products are available in India.
==> If you are buying handicrafts, buy from government handicraft shops. Handicrafts available in these shops are well priced and also the quality is high.
==> Bargain before buying, especially in smaller shops.
==> You will always be charged more. Take someone you know if possible.

Tipping
==> In most hotels, tips are not included in the bill. In many other hotels, giving tips may not be necessary.
==> Tipping taxi drivers is not necessary.

Sightseeing
==> Dress conservatively when visiting religious value. While visiting temples, you may have to cover your head and remove your shoes.
==> In some temples, leather articles may not be permitted. Always ask before entering temples or other religious places.
==> Some temples may not allow foreigners. Please check with the local tourist office for more information about this.
==> Most museums are closed on Mondays.
==> India is very hot. Drink lots of water while on sightseeing.
==> Use sunscreen lotion and put on sun glasses while outdoors.
==> Photography may not be permitted in public places. Please check with authorities if it is ok. to shoot photos.
==> Smoking in public places is illegal. This includes trains and railway premises.
==> Most people in India understand in English to at least some extent. You will not have any difficulty in speaking to people except in smaller towns and villages.

Health
==> Always drink bottled water.
==> Always wash fruits thoroughly before eating.
==> Always wash your hands before and after eating.
==> Use mosquito coils or repellents.

Time
==> Things in India are not so punctual. Whether they be trains or buses, they are usually late. So, give extra time for these.
==> If you are super punctual, you may feel frustrated.

Others
==> Always keep your documents in a safe place.
==> Keep photocopies of all important documents.
==> Be careful with auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers. They may charge more.
==> You won't have any problems in changing currency in major cities and towns. However, stick to US Dollars or UK Pounds.
==> Most towns in India have ATMs (Visa or Mastercard), so carry an ATM card instead of money. You probably won't have any problems in withdrawing money.
