The Taj Mahal is one of most beautiful constructions ever to be built. In fact, many consider it a wonder of the modern world. It was built entirely from white Rajasthani marble during the Mughal period. Its immense beauty resists description and has to be felt in person to fully realize it. The Taj is particularly beautiful at dawn and dusk. On a full-moon day, the Taj Mahal glitters with immense beauty. At dawn, the Taj Mahal will appear as if suspended across the Yamuna with its foundations hidden in the fog.

The Taj Mahal is one of the most popular constructions of India. In fact, it is India’s most well recognized monuments. Many also consider it as the Seventh Wonder of the World.

The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan--a Mughal Emperor in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal houses the grave of queen Mumtaz. After Shah Jahan died, his grave was also added to it later. To this day, the Taj Mahal stands as a reminder to his love for his wife.

More than 20,000 builders worked for 22 years to complete the Taj Mahal. Construction began in the year 1632 and was completed by 1653. The layout and construction plans were designed by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. In addition, many expert craftsmen from Delhi, Lahore, Multan, Baghdad, Shiraz and Bukhara were also employed to build the Taj Mahal. The result was a splendid mausoleum, the beauty of which is beyond words. The beauty of the Taj cannot be described, it can only be felt!

The Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Agra is well connected by railways. It is approximately 200 kilometres from Delhi—the capital of India. Many airline companies also operate flights from Agra to other cities of India.
